Adoption Announcement – It’s A Girl!

Dan and I are thrilled to announce the adoption of our newest addition to our sailing family – Frances! Weighing 23,500 pounds and measuring 564 inches in length, she is doing well on the hard in East Greenwich Rhode Island. Her final health check will be in May when she will be baptized with her full name – Gaviidae Frances Thorndycraft-DeWeese! How’s that for a mouthful?

If you are wondering how we could part with our beloved Gozzard 37 Gaviidae – our new baby is also a Gozzard (when you find something you like, you stick with it!) Her official birth was in 2003 and she is green with a white bulwark stripe and a white boot stripe. Her interior is exactly the same as Gaviidae but reversed – this means that for the first two weeks I will be walking into the aft cabin thinking I’m going into the head. Essentially the same as Gaviidae—just roomier.

For those of you who want the real details:

Length overall: 47’
Length on deck: 41’ (Gaviidae is 37’)
Length at waterline: 35’4”
Beam: 13’ (Gaviidae is 12’)
Draft: 5’6”
Mast height above the water: 57’4”
Cutter rigged with a cruising asymmetrical
Iron Genny: Westerbeke 71

Okay that’s enough of the details! Time for pictures!

Note: It is not our intention to have his-and-hers boats – Gaviidae (1999 Gozzard G37) will be listed shortly with Gozzard Yachts and Wagner Stevens.

  1. Congratulations! We met in Rossport, Ontario a few years ago on a rainy day. We were admiring your beautiful yacht. A Gozzard is our dream boat. I misplaced your card and just found it today! It is awesome to see you are enjoying your adventures!

    1. Good to hear from you – we are pretty excited about our new “Gaviidae” – perhaps our paths will cross again on the Great Lakes! Stay in touch!

P.S. There’s an awesome G37 for sale in Goderich! 🙂

  2. Having been aboard Frances many times I can say you are very lucky, she was much loved and well taken care of. I too owned a Gozzard and appreciate the workmanship goes into building those boats. Fairwinds and following seas
