Road tripping to our next housesit, we departed Katy TX on January 13 and headed to Les Vieux Chenes de Les Lemaire’s, a Harvest Host in Breaux Bridge LA. This was a very special Host as you could choose to join them for an authentic Cajun dinner (for a small fee). Clyde helped us get parked when we arrived and Pearly made a fabulous dinner. We had Jambalaya, purple peas (beans), and a green pea salad. And then they were sweet enough to share their special King Cake with us. King Cake is a traditional treat during Mardi Gras and is covered with purple, gold, and green frosting. Very sweet but delicious! As Pearly says “you arrive as guests and leave as family!”
Alabama Bound
From Breaux Bridge we headed east to Alabama, stopping for a couple of nights at Meaher State Park on Mobile Bay. It was chilly but we enjoyed a sunny walk on the boardwalk through the marshes. We proceeded onward to another Harvest Host in Bluffton GA – White Oak Pastures. White Oak is a farming operation that has been going for six generations. They have a huge amount of land, based on the pasture signs we saw on our way into Bluffton. They also have a store where you can buy their meat products, a variety of specialized food items, and a restaurant. We ended up having dinner and then picked up breakfast to-go as we headed out.
Heading to the Coast
We stopped for a few nights at Skidaway Island before moving on to Bluffton SC to visit our friend Nancy and enjoy a lovely lunch at Charlie’s. Both locations were places we stopped or went by on our way to and from the Bahamas.
Our next sit was near Greenville SC with two lovely cats named Mocha and Macha. We were there from January 22 to February 21st. The cats had a specific routine, and they were not shy about keeping us in line. But both cats ignored my yarn and knitting, as long as they could be close to their new peeps.
From Greenville, our road trip took us to the Jordan Lake Recreation Area near Raleigh NC. We spent a couple of very windy and chilly nights, with winds hitting us on the beam and rocking the RV. Our next pet sit started on January 24th in Raleigh with two dogs – Pookie and Sushi, both of the Heinz 57 variety.
